We Need To Stop Stressing On Group Activities
They’re holding us back and affecting our creativity
I had a psychology class last week in which we were taught how to navigate the premises of giving a kick-ass presentation. I remember constantly having this strange feeling at the back of my mind that this class was different from any other that I’ve taken. How, you may ask.
Well, for starters, it focused more on developing my own, individual, public speaking skills in a way that I’d never been instructed before. It was only later after coming out of a head full of new insights that I realized what had been bugging me.
It was the simple fact that throughout the class, that I wasn’t mandated to perform any of the activities in a group. I could do my own homework, learn on my own and even prepare a presentation to give on my own.
The thought stuck with me. So here I am, asking a question — since when did it become so mundane, so normal, to perform every task in a group?
And most importantly, why has working alone become so frowned upon?
Our accomplishment should matter in itself, not who all we did it with
People seem to love this saying — “Show, don’t tell.”
